Gujarat ATS Arrests Eight Alleged Jaish-e-Mohammed Operatives for Attempting to Build Terror Network Across State

The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad arrested eight alleged Jaish-e-Mohammed operatives during a major counter-terrorism operation spanning Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. The accused face multiple charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for allegedly attempting to establish a terrorist network in Gujarat.

Ahmedabad: In a major counter-terrorism operation, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested eight individuals for their alleged links with the banned terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). Investigators alleged that the accused were actively working to establish an operational network across Gujarat to expand the organisation's terrorist activities. The arrests were carried out across Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh following an extensive investigation, and a case was registered at the ATS Police Station on Thursday, July 2.

The Gujarat ATS booked the accused under Sections 13, 17, 18, 38, and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. They have also been charged under Sections 148 and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, as authorities intensified action against attempts to expand the operational presence of the banned organisation within the state.

Officials stated that all eight accused were members of the prohibited terrorist organisation and were allegedly working on its behalf to create an active network in Gujarat to facilitate and strengthen its terrorist operations.

The latest operation marks another significant development in a series of counter-terror investigations conducted by the Gujarat ATS in recent years. In January this year, the Gujarat ATS, in coordination with the Navsari Police, arrested a 22-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh in Navsari after alleging that he was in possession of extremist literature, a pistol, and ammunition. Investigators further alleged that he had maintained contact with an individual linked to extremist propaganda.
